Staying Healthy on a Low Carbohydrate Diet

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Marjorie Geiser It is estimated that about 32 million Americans are following some type of low carbohydrate diet. This is the result of fad diet authors claiming that carbohydrates are the cause for Americas rising obesity problems. The backlash against carbohydrates is a result of the low fat craze that started in the 80s. When consumers started cutting down their fat intake, manufacturers figured out that they could create low fat processed food products that the public would buy. Because these products claimed to be fat free, Americans didnt pay attention to the fact that they were not also calorie free, and as a result, the total amount of daily calories has slowly been increasing. In fact, although the total percentage of calories from fat has decreased, the actual amount of fat intake has increased by 10# per year since 1975! The increase of carbohydrate has also increased, at a rate of 20# per year, mostly as a result of highly processed foods. It is estimated that 3800 calories are now produced for every American man, woman and child. We have evolved from a world of feast or famine, but were in a state of perpetual feast, although our bodies have not changed. We have no defenses against excess calories: Every year, 300,000 to 400,000 deaths in the US are attributed to obesity. Meanwhile, Asian and Middle Eastern populations consume 50-75% of their calories from rice and have some of the lowest rates of obesity and heart disease in the world. People living in the Mediterranean also have fewer health conditions commonly seen in the US. This diet consists of whole grains, vegetables, legumes, nuts and fruits. Their diets are rich in fish and low in meats and poultry. Although their fat intake is about the same as in America, the type of fat is primarily monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil, where Americans eat primarily saturated animal fats. Regardless of the actual advantage or disadvange to following a low carbohydrate diet, there are three recommendations for maintaining good health while following such a diet. The first is to choose healthy fats over the unhealthy, saturated fats, when considering fat intake. Examples of healthy fats would be plant fats that have not been hydrogenated, which makes the fat more solid at room temperature. It is believed that hydrogenation is actually more harmful to health than saturated fats found naturally in animal products. Plant fats would include nuts, avocados, and olives. Oils such as olive oil, canola oil and peanut oil are better choices than fats that come from animal sources, such as butter, lard or bacon grease. Multiple studies over the years have shown that excess animal fats lead to higher risks of cancer, heart disease and other inflammatory disorders. Saturated fats have been linked to increased cholesterol, LDL (the bad) cholesterol as well as to increased LDL cholesterol oxidation. In fact, in January 2004, an Atkins representative put out a press release advising the public to decrease their amounts of steak, eggs, and saturated fast to less than 20% of their total fat intake. The next recommendation to ensure good health is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Although fruits and most vegetables are restricted in the initial phase of some low carbohydrate diets, they are then allowed back in limited amounts. The phytonutrients that come from a diet rich in fruits and vegetables have been shown to decrease blood pressure, as well as protect against cancer, heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Its easy to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, once you get in the habit. Examples are; add some berries to breakfast, eat a tomato at lunch, include broccoli with dinner, drink some vegetable juice with snacks, and have a large salad with your meal. The final tip to ensure good health is to eat a diet of whole foods, rather than fall back on the easy snack, convenience foods of today. If Americans had just cut down their amount of fat intake in the 80s, without finding new ways to snack, we may not be seeing the epidemic of obesity we see, today. When people started going on the low carbohydrate diets, they eliminated a large number of calories by eliminating snacking, especially at night, where common snacks are chips, crackers, and other high fat, high refined carbohydrate foods, such as ice cream. Today, though, much like in the 80s, manufacturers are now developing low carb and low net carb snack foods. We can now find low net carb chips, crackers, ice cream, popcorn, even low carb pizza! As Americans start to increase their intake of these foods, we will soon see a slowing of the weight loss many had seen initially. In order to call themselves a low net carb food, manufacturers subtract the fiber and sugar alcohols from the total carbohydrates in the product, rather than produce products without carbohydrate. There is no actual FDA standard for what a low net carb food is, yet, though, so right now its anything the manufacturer wants to say it is. These foods also are very high in fat and saturated fat, usually through hydrogenation. So, not only will calories be added back into the diet through resuming unhealthy snack habits, but they will be calories consisting of high amounts of the unhealthy fats. So, while following a low carbohydrate diet, in order to ensure continued good health, follow these three recommendations: 1) Make most fats you eat the healthy, plant fats, rather than eating a diet high in animal or hydrogenated fats, 2) Eat plenty of nutrient rich fruits and vegetables, which are high in disease-fighting antioxidants, and 3) eat mostly whole, fresh foods and very little processed snack foods, even if they say low carb, in order to avoid hidden and unnecessary fat and calories. Diets, Diets, Diets…Do They Work?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Mike Yeager Almost everyone has attempted to follow diets and weight loss programs at some time in their lives. The trouble with so many diets and low fat diets is that they are hard to follow. Some diets leave you hungry and craving food all the time. A healthy diet is one that you feel good about following and encourages you to eat in a healthy way while at the same time reducing the overall calorie content. When choosing from among the many diets available, keep in mind what your reason is for altering your eating and exercise habits. Do you want to feel better and have some more energy? Are you tired of not fitting into your clothes and that has caused you to consider one of the weight loss diets? Experts agree that its not good to try and loose excess weight in a quick manner. Its better to take your time and incorporate a package of exercise, proper nutrition and, in general, balance. As with all new diets, weight loss and exercise plans, its always best to consult with your physician and have a complete physical examination before starting. There are many different diets products to choose from. Choose from only the best providers of coral calcium products that offer great prices. That way youll be guaranteed quality and they can even be shipped right to your door. Crosstraining For Weight Loss

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Raymond Burton It’s pretty easy to get sucked into the belief that if you want to lose weight you have to lift weights 3 times a week and then do cardio in addition to that at least 4-5 times for half an hour. Does that sound familiar? Of course it does, because it works. However, if it has not worked for you in the past, its probably because it just doesnt rock your world. In other words, you would rather be rubbing pickle juice on a paper cut than lifting weights. As with anything in life that you are able to take to a highly successful level, you need to love the physical activity you are doing in order to stick with it and give it your all. You have to have a passion for your training. Dont get stuck on that word either. Training brings up all kinds of images of an overpaid trainer barking orders or worse yet sitting back and having a cup of coffee counting reps while you hate every moment of it. Now take a trip with me to the land of crosstraining for weight loss and see how this tickles your fancy. 7:30 AM Your eyes open and you have your first choice of the day. How you create your internal monologue. Choice one; Say, Crap, its 7:30 already? I hate my job, I want to rollover and die. Choice two; you open your eyes and look at the ceiling for a couple of moments. Just lay there. Then you sit up and put your hands over your head, breath deep and say, I have a choice how I live my life and I choose happiness. Now get out of bed and do 5 sun salutations being mindful of your breath and all thoughts that come into your head. After reading that you had one of two reactions. You either thought that I was a bubbly fitness nut that was off his rocker or you thought that this all sounded exciting and cant wait till tomorrow to try it. Your reaction was a reflection of your internal level of happiness. That was the first step to you taking control and dictating how your day is going to be. This first step states that you will not be blown around the whims and moods of others or even your own negative thoughts. You are taking the reigns and the biggest project you have on the go right now is, you. Now, the idea of crosstraining is that if it involves activity then it can be part of your routine! How easy and fun is that? You have already done some bodyweight resistance training today and also got in some stretching with the five sun salutations. What would you like to do next? What is in the back of your mind that when you think of activity, fun, sports or exercise that comes to mind? The funny thing here is that whatever it is that pops into your head probably strikes the fear of god into you even though you think it would be really fun. As humans we are kind of weird that way. It seems like whatever it is that we are truly drawn to and whatever it is that is truly best for us actually scares the pudding out of us. The idea you have to wrap your head around though is that you would never have a sense of accomplishment if the things you tried didnt overwhelm you a bit in the beginning. Remember that. Fear and anxiety are signs of personal progression. So what do you want to try today in your crosstraining? Maybe a walk at lunchtime? If that sounds doable then get to it. Go have a blast and burn some calories while you are at it. That can be your cardio for today. Maybe when you woke up this morning you were a little stiff and were thinking about giving yoga a try. Maybe not because there will be all those skinny fitness yoga queens there and you dont have a clue..WAIT. Did you catch it? Thats right! The thoughts of fear and anxiety starting creeping in, but you caught them. Since we know that fear and anxiety are signs of personal progression and this in turn brings you towards your weight loss goals, what do you suggest you should do? Great job, go to yoga! It sounds like a broken record to say this but crosstraining and weight loss are lifestyle choices. Just like the choices you have made in your life before now that have taken you to this place. New lifestyle choices can take you to another. Where you want to go with your weight loss is totally up to you. How you want to get there is also totally up to you. In fact, whatever you want to get out of this life is placed squarely on your shoulders by the choices you make. Excuses are great, I use them sometimes too, but they only delay the arrival of a goal achieved. Before I go I want to tickle on one last point. Its got to do with emotions and action. This will be my way of getting you to act instead of fertilize. There is an emotional ladder that ranks the emotions of a person by a series of steps towards personal evolution and success. The very bottom of the ladder is apathy and despair. Let that sink in. The very worst emotion to sit around in and fertilize is apathy and despair. How do you get out is the question. You step up the ladder to anger. Anger sounds bad and there are better emotions but when you are depressed and cant seem to break free the easiest way to take action is to get fed up with your present state and do something about it! Simply say, Im angry and I am going to do something about this hole I have dug myself into! Now of course we dont want to be angry all the time, but you have to admit that getting angry and doing something that takes you towards your goals makes you feel real good! The French Fry: Weapon of Mass Destruction?

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Virginia Bola, PsyD Americans have their French fries, the British have their chips, Latin America has its papas fritas, and the French have their pommes-frites. We love them. The potato, that most ubiquitous and perennially popular vegetable, is simply sliced into strips and deep fried. The fast food chains have managed to create total consistency so that fries at a McDonalds in Kalamazoo are identical with those offered in San Francisco, Atlanta, Moscow, or Madrid. They are the ultimate finger food, easily consumed behind the wheel, standing in the subway, or walking down the street. Some of us choose to add ketchup, or vinegar, or salsa, but they also taste great just as they are. The civilized world has a giant addiction to the lowly tuber. It is hard to conceive of the centuries of eating that took place before potatoes were brought back to Europe from the New World and became a staple of every country’s cuisine. What did the poor eat before potatoes made their appearance? Bread? Grains? Vegetables? The advent of the potato changed our diets forever. It was easy to grow, plentiful, and cheap. The flavor was mild, marrying well with almost anything we chose to eat with it. Its texture changed depending upon how it was prepared. And how many ways we invented to cut it, cook it, and use it with every meal imaginable! We baked it in its skin or roasted it in bite-sized pieces. We boiled it whole or mashed it into a creamy mush. We grated it and fried it for breakfast. We made soup of it and made it a key ingredient in stews. We made pancakes out of it. We sliced it, riced, it, and diced it. We put it into bread, rolled it into dough, and created America’s favorite snack, the potato chip. But the masterpiece that captured us all was deep frying it. Thick, country-style chips, shoe strings, curly and spicy -we loved them all: golden and crisp and perfect. French fries now make up 25% of our children’s intake of vegetables. Fast food nutritionists attempted to substitute healthier alternatives which were peremptorily dismissed by the majority of their customers. Fries remain the accompaniment of choice for all fast food: burgers, hot dogs, chicken, fish, roast beef, and ribs. We simply cannot get enough and never, ever, seem to tire of the little crunches of pleasure. The innocuous potato, relatively low in calories and packing its fair share of vitamins and minerals, has been transformed into a culinary weapon of mass destruction. Disfigured by saturated fat into a caloric and artery-hardening horror, the French fry may be the deadliest peril we face on a daily basis. Just a few orders of fries a week can increase our weight by ten pounds a year! Over a decade, that’s a hundred pounds, over a lifetime, an awe-inspiring figure. With 60% of us overweight, half of that figure actually obese, we must look to our dietary intake to find the cause. As diabetes and other weight-related conditions mushroom, we know in our hearts that lifestyle changes are needed. We go on diet regimens, drink liquid meals, fast, cut out sauces, and have our stomachs stapled. We join gyms, buy home exercise equipment, and follow along with television fitness shows. We blame the additives in our food, the hormones in our meat, and the fat in our salad dressings. We forsake the carbohydrates and sugars that our bodies can’t process and opt for high fiber breads and low fat milk. We refuse to believe, because we don’t want to believe, that a seemingly harmless, crisp little addition to our meal can pack such a lethal wallop. “But I just nibble a few,” you wail, “And not every day.” It’s not the single meal intake that leads to an explosion. It’s the cumulative total, day after day, year after year, that plants the time bomb within our system. It is the additive effect of repetitive use that eventually reaches critical mass and our physiology implodes. Imagine, if you will, that not one fry was sold or eaten over the course of a year, anywhere in the United States. With just that change alone, the collective national weight loss could exceed a billion pounds! The poor potato is ill-equipped to perform as a deadly weapon. It offers us enjoyment and variety and taste and health. But we have taken its honest goodness and distorted it into a slow killer. With every bend of our elbow to pop its sweet flavor into our mouths, we lay down fat on our hips, our stomachs, our arteries, and our pancreas. Let’s save ourselves and save the potato. Much as we hate to admit it, the French fry is something that has to go, before we do. Virginia Bola is a licensed psychologist and an admitted diet fanatic. Are You Making These Common Job Interview Mistakes?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Brian Stephenson Going to an interview without a plan of action is like going out on a football field without a game plan. Total disaster! Suppose I were to ask you right now. What are your skills or attributes? Could you give a good answer? Suppose I were to ask you the question thats in every interviewers mind. Why should I hire you? What would you say? All of the interviewers questions that you will see in this section have a purpose, and that is to put solid meaning into your interview preparation. So, do study them, all of them.Interviewers have different styles, some you will like better than others. The keys to any successful interview are the four Bs. Be likable Be able to give complete answers Be on time Be yourself Never forget, that first impressions are very important. They help the interviewer decide whether he or she wants to hire you or not. Please make sure that you take advantage of this tremendous information that is so powerful, that I am convinced, it will catapult your efforts. As you read the reasons for rejection given below, ask yourself how you would rate in relation to each. There are 5 areas that you as a job seeker must be aware. One high level interviewer says MOST of the applicants she sees are rejected for not attending to the items listed below. YOUR APPEARANCE Dress in clothes you would wear on the job. Wear conservative colors and avoid flashy fashions. Avoid too much jewelry or strong scents. YOUR MANNERS When you meet the interviewer, stand up, offer a strong handshake, and thank the interviewer for taking time to see you. In the interviewers office, dont sit down until invited to do so. Address the interviewer as Mr. Or Ms. Unless they tell you otherwise. Accept a cup of coffee or a soft drink, if offered, but decline a cigarette or telephone, use a pay phone. If the telephone rings, dont appear to listen in to the conversation. Review your resume. If someone walks in during the interview, stand up to greet him or her. In concluding the interview, shake hands with the interviewer and again thank them for taking the time to see you. YOUR BODY LANGUAGE Stand up very straight. Do not exhibit nervous gestures by tapping your feet, drumming your fingers, twisting your hair, rocking in your chair, crossing and re-crossing your legs, etc. Take pride in who you are what you offer. YOUR ATTITUDE Attitude is the most important attribute for being hired. Through body language, facial expressions and gestures, youll show that you are motivated to work. Look alive. Know the points you want to make and make them. Have an honest smile. Use your hands to illustrate points. Ask questions! Dont tell jokes, but do show humor. REMAIN CALM Some interviewers may seem to dislike you. Usually this isnt true. Their questions may seem personal or insulting. Dont get upset. Their job and the job you want may involve pressure. Before some interviewers offer a job, they want to see how well applicants can take the heat. If you are offended, you may not get this job. When the interview is full of pressure, stay calm, cool, and polite. You may be tested by a stress interview. If a question or other interviewer action truly is out of line, remind the interviewer in a polite but firm manner. Tiffany Taylor - How to Meet Young Women

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By DeWayne Strickland Tiffany Taylor reveals ‘all’ her dirty little secrets to the male human race!Women have written to her in anger and scorned her for turning against her own kind. You walk up to a woman you find attractive, you lookher in the eyes and the wrong words come out. How many times has thishappened to you? Tiffany Taylor is a beautiful sexy blonde, who wants you(The Male) to have a fighting chance! If your not a Casanova, then Tiffany Taylor can quickly turn you into one.She powerfully dispells the common myths, that you have to be good looking, well endowed, and rich to get a girlfriend. She proves that it is possible to get the girl on a psychological level. If every man had this understanding, thenthis article would not have been written. Once Chuck Norris was told, that hewas the best in the world, his response was, “There is always someone better”.Tiffany Taylor has the “better” knowledge that is lacking in the male mentality. Maybe some money can get a girl’s attention, but the relationship falls apartbecause of the non-communication skills. If you don’t know how to test the waters with a woman, you can drown. Confidence is a very powerful factorin a successful relationship with a woman. Even some of the greatest moviestars knew the importance of confidence in a flourishing relationship. Just look at what Charlie Chaplin had to say about confidence: You have to believe in yourself, that’s the secret. Even when I was in the orphanage, when I was roaming the street trying to find enough to eat, even then I thought of myself as the greatest actor in the world. I had to feel the exuberance that comes from utter confidence in yourself. Without it, you go down to defeat. -Charlie Chaplin What is to stop you from thinking of yourself as the greatest lover in theworld? Again, there may be someone better, but you have to believe inyourself! Tiffany Taylor is years ahead of her time in the most ingenuis, seduction methodology in existence. Now here is the clincher, there aremany men who write about seduction techniques, but how effective arethey? Granted, there is some good information out there, but TiffanyTaylor knows what a woman wants, because she is a woman! This is a crucial fact that can not be denied. Can a woman give you better information on seduction, than a man? Are you ready for a real jaw dropper? Tiffany Taylor found that mostof the pick up guides were written in the 1990’s and some as far backas the 1980’s. If you have purchased pick up guides containing seductionsecrets from those time frames, you have been duped! Tiffany Taylor offers techniques that are fresh and effective. I had one girl tell me she met her match on match.com and it worked! Many people are meeting each other on dating sites, but the guys that don’t have what Tiffany Taylor reveals, will end up empty handed. Are you going to hitall the dating sites, until you find one that bites on the hook? Good Luck! Out of the millions searching the internet for a hot woman, you need toask yourself one question, “Why not me?” With the right “skills” fromTiffany Taylor, you will be the next Casanova! Your cell phone will actually ring and your friends will wonder what happened to you.Your standing in StarBucks and ordering a coffee, when you noticethe girl behind the counter is interested in you. Why Are Some Men Unkind To Their Families?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Eva Fry I am not talking about the abusive bully or the man with a character flaw, who possesses no compassion, is beyond feeling and has no conscience. I am talking about the frustrated man who yells at this family, makes great demands on them, seems always angry and frustrated. This unhappy man is often the product of stress. His actions are the reactions of trying to provide for his family, in an uncaring world that often demands more than he can give. He often feels that his efforts are not recognized and that there is no reward for doing his best. For a wife to live with this troubled man is very difficult. All she sees is the consequence of his unappreciated attempts to make it in the world. His frustrations and anger are often taken out on his family. Why? Because his home is the only place he can get away with it. The only place he can vent his feelings and try to get rid of some the pressure he feels. Home is the only place he hopes to be understood. For this man, an understanding wife is the best gift he can have. To be able to come home to a wife who loves him. Doesnt judge him. Accepts him even when hes unkind and allows him to vent his feelings, even when its unfair, is probably the kindest thing anyone can do for him. Some women are unable to do this and it’s understandable. The problem we have is, the frustrated man comes home from work wanting peace, a safe haven from the world and no new problems. He is up tight. His nerves are shot and little things will bug him, like seeing the kids bikes carelessly lying in the driveway. This makes him angry because it just adds to the pressure he already feels, so he yells at the kids. Or, he notices that his wife didnt do something he asked her to do. It doesnt matter that maybe she had a hard day too. He interprets this as her not caring for him, helping him, or understanding that he needs help. Exasperated he starts yelling at her too. He is at the end of his rope and believes those who should care are not considerate of him. She in turn thinks. How can he treat me that way? Why doesnt he understand what I have been through this day? Why doesnt he ever see all that I do? Why does he only see what I dont do? So she in turn gets angry back with him or punishes him in other ways. She turns herself away from him. She stops talking to him. Chooses to not do things for him, because he doesnt understand her. She feels sorry for herself and becomes depressed. Etc, Etc, Etc. There is no understanding on either side. The worst part is that when we feel abused or neglected we tend for forget the good parts of our mate. We only see the bad. We only see our partners flaws and mistakes. We tend to forget our own mistakes. We each want perfection from our mate when we are not perfect! To make an analogy: If your young son went to school and was made fun of, by the other kids, was misunderstood by the teacher, found school hard and didnt get the help he needed. He is really hurting. He comes home angry and wants to fight with his siblings, gets sent to his room, for being a brat. He feels that no one, at home, loves or understands him either and he just gets more angry and frustrated. We need to understand the cause of our loved ones actions. Every action has a cause! We very seldom take the time to fine the cause. To understand the cause and to do what we can to help eliminate or at lease understand the cause is what we should do. Instead we react to their actions, not realizing their actions are the result of a cause. We need to love them enough to understand them. To be an understanding wife, when her husband is acting out, is difficult because she tends to take his actions toward her as abuse. It is, but she fails to recognize the reasons for why he acts as he does. She needs to understand the cause. To allow him to vent when he needs to. She needs to understand what it like for a man out there in the world, The world of men working with men! Most men put great demands on each other. Most have little compassion for other men. Often, they gain great joy if they can put another man down. Even destroy him if they can. Teasing is one of the greatest joys men do to other men, usually in an unkind way. Many men have no consideration for another mans feelings. If a man can point out another mans flaw; it gives the abuser a sense of pride and makes him feel that he is better than he really is. Many men have large egos gained from stomping on other men. Most men do not build each other up, they tear each other down and are not always aware they are doing it. It is just tradition passed down from man to man. They do not give compliments, they try to embarrass and insult each other. They were often raised with unfeeling and unkind fathers or no father at all and grew up in a world of unkind men. They in turn, to survive, take on the characteristics of other flawed men because they believe this is how a man should act. They believe they must be strong. This is being masculine. This is being a man1 The other thing about a man, some women dont always understand, is how difficult it is to make a living today. There are enormous demands put on them to perform. The fear of failure or of being fired is a tremendous stress. The expectations put on men by themselves or their family members expectations, is breaking. To provide nice homes, nice cars and all the extras like music lessons etc is overwhelming to most men. To know that so much is expected of them and to know that they may not possess the abilities to live up to all those expectations is very hard on them. To be an understanding wife to this frustrated man is very difficult, but so important. To not take the actions of her husband toward her, personally, is extremely difficult. If she can try to recognize the cause and realize that she is not the reason for his actions can be very helpful to her. Because she will have a greater understanding for what is going on. If she can even learn to endure the abuse and not pass it on is the best thing she can do. To be kind, to him, when he is not being kind is the greatest gift she can give to him. Even when it seems he doesnt deserve it. It has been said, He who is most unloving, needs love the most! Most women lack this ability. They want to fight back and think Its not fair To think, Hes abusing me! I dont deserve this. Rather than being a safe haven for their man, they add to the pressure. They pay him back. They abuse in their own way. They yell back, argue or turn themselves off and quite talking to him. I am not saying women should be a door mate or accept any kind of abuse. But being able to withstand unkindness because someone is hurting inside and to not take it personal is the healthiest thing she can do for herself and for her mate. I have directed these suggestions to women but the same ideas are how men should treat their women. They should show the same kindness and understanding toward their wives. Also, I know there are many women out there trying to survive too. In our world many women are facing the same stresss as men. My thoughts can be used for both husband and wife. Personalised Pens

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Munir Timol As a business tool, Personalised pens are a resourceful way to modify behavior, inspire people, and create goodwill amongst customers and employees alike. Personalised Pens can be distributed at, tradeshows, conferences, seminars, press releases, employee gatherings, supplier meetings, customer greetings, and many other places. When integrated into marketing strategies, Personalised pens can enhance advertising, direct mail campaigns, events, and the successful efforts of your sales force. Personalised Pens help you to remain in the forefront of customer’s minds long after your official campaign is over. My favourite pen of all time was a Parker that was given to me by my dad. Every time I used that pen I wrote with the utmost of clarity and my handwriting never looked better. Sadly the pen was lost and I never did replace it but I still look back and remember it with much fondness. These days the pens I use are for functional purposes but a range of Personalised Pens recently caught my attention. These Personalised Pens are great for promotional purposes as they can have a variety of information put on them. I can imagine them proving to be extremely popular at certain types of corporate functions where they could be given out as advertising aids. In fact, the more I think about Personalised Pens the more I like the idea. Companies can have them branded and their company logo can be out upon them and then given out to their valued customers of old and new. I can imagine workers within office buildings picking up the Personalised Pens to jot down messages and reading the print that`s upon them. Similarly I can imagine boardrooms packed full of board members all making notes with Personalised Pens. Moreover, I imagine the message that`s placed upon the Personalised Pens to be registering inside people`s head. How simple yet effective is this adverting idea to place print upon the side of humble pens? Pens of all types can be treated to the printed process and that includes quality products made from the Parker range. My favourite pen of all time has just been improved as it can now advertise as well as write with efficiency. Personalised Pens imprinted with corporate logos can be seen all over the place. You probably use a branded Personalised pen at least once or twice every day without realizing it, in fact you probably have a selection of Personalised pens right in front of your now. Protect Yourself Against the Flu Vaccine!

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andreas_Moritz] Andreas Moritz The vaccine industry insists that their vaccines against the flu serve as the key to a healthy winter. Although there has not been a serious flu epidemic for 38 years, their vaccines are prescribed to millions of people each year. You may wonder why perfectly healthy people are injected with a normally harmless bug whose strains mutate from year to year? Although flu vaccines can never be accurate, encouraged by their employers, millions of employees submit to a flu jab each year, trying to avoid the loss of working days. Influenza always starts in the Far East, and then spreads to the West in early winter, reaching its peak during February and March. It may come in either of three types, A, B, or C. During the last several years, type A has been the dominant version. What makes vaccination against the flu so unsuccessful is that the strains of the flu virus are different every year and the so-called protection lasts for only six months. So each autumn you require a new vaccination for a different virus. The trouble is, drug companies have no way of knowing in summer which new strain of the flu virus is going to hit the Western Hemisphere during the winter months. The vaccine producers grow the vaccines, consisting of live viruses, in hens eggs, which when injected into the body can cause side effects such as redness and soreness at the injection site and a mild form of flu. Very serious complications arise in people who are taking immune-suppressing drugs or who have a heart condition. If you are allergic to eggs, having a flu-shot may also endanger your health. For the average healthy person, coming down with the flu is not serious at all. On the contrary, it can build up natural immunity even against future encounters with new strains of the flu virus. The very reason why nature creates these new forms of virus every year and spreads them with accurate timing is to ensure continued ecological balance and strong immunity in plants, animals, and humans alike. Anyone prone to repeated infections is likely to have a toxic liver with many hundreds of stones accumulated in the liver and gallbladder. Gallstones, which harbor many types of infectious bacteria and viruses, are a constant source of immune suppression. Cleansing the liver of all gallstones is about the best prevention against any type of infection. People who have cleansed their liver in this way have reported that they never catch a cold or the flu anymore. Flu virus vaccines used until 2002 contained live viruses and produced so many serious, adverse reactions that new vaccines had to be concocted. The new formula for flu vaccines is called the subvirion, which basically is a mutilated virus blended, spliced and macerated until just bits and pieces of the original virus are left. This in no way makes the virus less dangerous. In fact, the antigens or foreign proteins in the vaccine, for which the body is forced to produce antibodies against, are still as poisonous and harmful as live virus. Besides the subvirion, there are plenty of other substances added to the flu vaccine, most of which you would never want to consciously ingest. These include: * Hemagglutinin antigens that cause clumping of the red blood cells, leading to cardiovascular disease.* The enzyme neuraminidase, which cuts out neuraminic acid from the cell membrane, weakening all of the trillions of cell membranes in the body.* White crystalline substance called allantoin, a toxic animal waste product. Due to its high nitrogen content, allantoin is used as fertilizer; leads to kidneys and bladder stones.* Gentamicin, a broad spectrum antibiotic, is added to each embryonated chicken egg to inhibit the growth of bacteria (vaccine is grown in chicken eggs).* Formaldehyde (carcinogenic), used as a preservative and to inactivate the virus. * The toxic chemicals, tri butylphosphate and Polysorbate 80, USP.* Resin, to eliminate substantial portions of tri butylphosphate and Polysorbate 80* Thimerosal, a mercury derivative, to preserve the vaccine cocktail.* Polyethylene glycol, a relative of ethylene glycol (antifreeze); often used to poison dogs and other predators of sheep.* Isocctylphenyl ether, a compound of ether; has anesthetic properties; a teratogen, causing abnormal prenatal development. It also induces testicular atrophy in animals. The vaccine producers are unable to guarantee that the vaccine will protect you against the flu. So they carefully tell you that the vaccine reduces the likelihood of infection; or if you do develop the disease it will be a milder case. Some express the same uncertainly about their product in this way: It is known definitely that influenza virus vaccine, as now constituted, is not effective against all possible strains of influenza virus. Why would you want to entrust your health to a cocktail of poisonous chemicals when even a somewhat weakened immune system stands a far better chance to protect you against harm from a bout of influenza. Our bodys sophisticated immune system, which has evolved over millions of years, can certainly do a better job of protecting you against the flu than anything made-made. All it needs is some basic care taking on your part. With each new flu shot, on the other hand, your immune system becomes more depleted and side-effects become more pronounced and severe. And, you may still get the flu anyway. The following list includes the possible consequences you can expect if you go down the road of vaccination: The most frequent side effects of vaccination: * Soreness at the site of the vaccination * Pain or tenderness* Erythema * Inflammation * Skin discoloration * Induration* A mass or lump* Hypersensitivity reactions incl. puritus and urticaria* Fever* Malaise * Myalgia * Arthralgia * Asthenia* Chills* Headache* Lymphadenopathy * Rash* Nausea* Vomiting * Diarrhea* Pharyngitis * Angiopathy * Vasculiltis* Anaphylaxis in asthmatics, with possible death* Anaphylactic shock, with possible death Vaccination certainly does not create immunity. You cannot become immune by ingesting poisons that destroy the immune system. Studies by a group of Italian scientists showed that the flu vaccine reduced the occurrence of clinical episodes of influenza by only 6 percent in adults, and effectiveness tended to decrease with age. They concluded that universal immunization wasn’t warranted. Stated simply, hand washing and other hygienic and nutritional measures are far superior to the flu vaccine in effectiveness. When cared for hygienically, and by eating nutritious foods and keeping ones intestines and liver clean, influenza never becomes a deadly disease. Getting vaccinated against the flu, on the other hand, is a sure way to sow the seeds for new illnesses in the body. All vaccines are poisonous, and as such act like time bombs that will explode in due time. Why People Get the Flu Flu jabs lower natural immunity by injecting alien and toxic substances directly into the blood stream. No other animal in the world takes recourse t such unnatural, superficial and crude means to defend itself against invading viruses. The normal route of contact with a viral particle is via the lungs. The vast majority of the population has a normal, healthy immune system and is perfectly capable of dealing with the invaders without getting sick. But if the bodys infection fighters have temporarily gone on strike for reasons other than the lack of a vaccine, the flu virus can gain unrestricted access into the body and cause an infection. Regular vaccination (of any kind) is one of the major causes of depleted immunity. The yearly-administered flu jabs burden the immune system and cells of the body with foreign toxic material without giving them a chance to remove them again. The toxic viral particles can remain latent in the cells and gallstones for as long as 20 years; when they emerge they can cause serious cell damage. With each new vaccination the immune system becomes more and more restricted in its effort to neutralize the live virus that suddenly appears in the blood. It may produce antibodies for the virus (although in many cases the immune system fails to do even that), which is finally subdued, but this encounter leaves the hosts immune system unnecessarily tired and weak. Besides immune damage, vaccines of all kinds produce alterations in genetic material and thereby cause a whole range of malfunctions in the body. Vaccines may even be the cause of the increasing incidence of malignant diseases in children. Mass immunization programs have created such weak immune systems that they are even susceptible to such harmless viruses as the one causing the flu. We may have gone as far as to replace mumps and measles with cancer, leukemia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Flu vaccinations are mainly targeted at the older generation and young children. In the United Kingdom, about 10,000 people, most of them are of very advanced age, (supposedly) die from flu-related illnesses. It may, therefore, sound reasonable to vaccinate the older people to protect them against the flu virus. But there is no total protection even among those vaccinated. Around 20 percent or more of the elderly people who get the vaccine still get a more virulent strain of flu, and many others get a lighter form of the flu. The same is true for the people in the same age group who havent been immunized. The weak and elderly people are more likely among those who die from the flu, regardless whether they have been immunized or not. The bottom line is that there is no real advantage in having a flu jab. And certainly, given the frailty of so many of the oldest members of society, there is absolutely no reliable way of telling whether the flu or something else may lead to their death. According to several studies released in February 2005 and reported by major news media such as CNN, the death rate in and out of the flu season among the elderly remains unchanged. In a statement commenting on the results of the new research, a CDC spokesman reiterated they still hold the strong belief that vaccinating the elderly and young is necessary. It is scary to entrust the life of millions of adults and children in the hands of people who base their decisions on mere personal belief, instead of on facts. As we have seen with AIDS (chapter 12), statistics can be manipulated in ways that support theories which have only one objective, to keep the medical business going. When a person who is about to die anyway also catches the flu, he will be automatically listed as a flu victim. This statistical deception will justify the use of vaccines in the rest of the elderly population, and the children. Instead of giving the elderly population vaccines in the misguided belief that this would take care of them we could help them much more by improving their general resistance to disease through good diet, social engagements and exercise programs. Many old people dont have adequate nutrition and suffer from depression; both these factors work as powerful immune suppressants. Others dont have a warm home or they live alone. Research has shown that these are the major risk factors for illness and death in the older generation. A series of liver cleanses alone can strengthen natural immunity, improve digestion, retard the aging process, restore health, and foremost of all, enhance mental functions. In developing countries, where the elderly play an important role in society, general illness is low, provided there is enough food available. In these countries it is more likely that old people die from malnutrition than from a strain of virus. There are an increasing number of reports that indicate a worsening of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, and Parkinsons disease as well as an increase in all kinds of allergic complaints in adults who regularly receive flu jabs. In 1976 an extensive flu vaccination program in America led to a massive outbreak of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disease affecting the nervous system. The outbreak, known as the Great Swine Flue Fiasco, paralyzed 656 people and 30 elderly persons were found dead within hours after they were vaccinated. Compensation claims were enormous, which helped slowing down the program, but only for a while. What about the other high-risk group, young children? Japanese researchers have shown that infants under one year of age fail to even generate a good antibody response following the vaccine. There is no point pumping children full with vaccine poisons, except enriching the pharmaceutical companies. Seniors, of course, are one of the core target groups for the flu vaccine program. So every year we’re told how older people are particularly vulnerable to the flu. We’re also told that government officials are holding their breath over their fear of a devastating flu pandemic. We’re even told that about 36,000 people die of flu related complications in the United States each year, and most of those deaths are elderly people. The reality of the matter is quite different, though. How many people do you think died of the flu last year? Less than 175, according to Sherri J. Tenpenny, D.O., an internationally known leader in vaccine research! And yet, the official line propagated by media campaigns is to be prepared for another wave of deadly flu epidemic, killing thousands of people each new season. The latest scare campaign about a possible bird-flu pandemic that recently swept the mass media and was written about in the a February issue of the New Yorker magazine is not justified, according to most research experts in the field. That 180 million people are projected to die from the bird-flu if it spreads is based on guess work, without any real scientific proof. It is like forecasting the long-awaited massive earthquake in California. At this time, there is no reason to believe that such a pandemic will occur. In the Name of Prevention The pharmaceutical companies producing the vaccines seem to have a more powerful effect on the population than the scientists have who invented them. As early as 1980, Dr Albert Sabin, one of the worlds leading virologists and pioneer of the polio vaccine, spoke vehemently against the use of the flu vaccine, claiming that it was unnecessary for over 90 percent of the population. This, however, has not discouraged the vaccination industry to endorse vaccination for all in the name of health and protection against disease. What makes matters worse is that there has never been a properly controlled clinical trial with the flu vaccine. Because we dont know anything about its its long-term effects, we may be unknowingly producing generations of people with debilitated immune systems and chronic diseases. Flu vaccination is an unproved and unscientific practice and there is nothing in the scientific literature that can certify or guarantee its safety. The most effective way to fight infections, including the flu, is to prevent it. There is no substitute for a health-increasing regimen. Vaccination, on the other hand, offers no real protection. Injecting the body with foreign and poisonous viral material is counterproductive to improving our well being. Dr. John Seal from the American National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases warned that we have to assume that every flu vaccination can cause the Guillain-Barre Syndrome. In this sense, prevention is not better than cure. Help From Mother Nature For those who are concerned about the flu and its possible effects, there is a remarkable herbal extract (andrographis paniculata) that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) therapies and traditional Chinese Medicine. It is used to treat everything from isolated cases of the sniffles to full-blown outbreaks of influenza. Apparently, Andrographis is believed to have halted the spread of the 1919 Indian flu pandemic. There is scientific evidence to support that theory. Researchers at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth in the UK conducted a survey of medical databases, herbal manufacturer information and World Health Organization reports to select seven studies that met the criteria for double-blind, controlled trials. The combined studies tested the use of andrographis as a treatment for respiratory tract infection in nearly 900 subjects. In all seven of these studies, subjects who took andrographis after the onset of cold symptoms reported faster recovery, compared to subjects who took placeboes or medication. Researchers concluded that andrographis may be effective in treating “uncomplicated” infection in the upper respiratory tract (throat, sinuses and ears). According to previous laboratory trials andrographis extract doesn’t actually kill the organisms that make you sick at least not directly. Instead, the herbal compound boosts your immune system and stimulates natural antibodies. Animal research also showed that andrographis may help prevent myocardial ischemia (inadequate blood circulation in the heart caused by coronary artery disease), inhibit the formation of blood clots, lower blood sugar levels in diabetics, lowered systolic blood pressure, and protect the liver against damage. Kan Jang is a brand of standardized extract of andrographis that has consistently outsold all other cold medications in Scandinavia for 13 years running. The Swedish Herbal Institute, the formulator of Kan Jang, recommends that you take one tablet four times daily to fight colds or the flu. Kan Jang can be purchased at dietary supplement stores and through Internet sites.
